Our program:

The integrated Research Training Group (iRTG) of the CRC 1116 provides a structured training program for PhD students alongside the experimental work in the laboratory. The research of CRC 1116 focuses on molecular mechanisms that influence cardiac remodeling in the acute and subacute phase after AMI and gives room to address state of the art cardiovascular biology in the accompanying course work including structural, functional, metabolic and immunological processes. Moreover, local and systemic interferences affect the ischemia activated adaptive and maladaptive mechanisms, which will be addressed in seminars and lectures, and will provide our PhD students with an integrative view on cardiovascular function and dysfunction as well as the translational aspects. The modular curriculum of the iRTG aims to address all of these topics and will engage PhD students in disease-oriented, cardiovascular research. The science related training program will be complemented by transferable skills workshops offered in collaboration with iGRAD and medRSD, graduate schools of the natural science and medical faculties.

·         B01 The CD73-adenosine-Interleukin 6-type cytokines axis in myocardial Infarction - Prof. Dr. med. Schrader/ Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Scheller

·         B10 Unraveling the role of brown adipose tissue in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury - Prof. Dr. med. Grandoch/ Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Flögel

·         B11 Cardioprotection by functional and dysfunctional High-density lipoproteins (HDL) in comorbidities: molecular mechanisms and therapeutic exploitation - Prof. Dr. med. Levkau/PD Dr. med. Polzin

·         B12 Insulin resistance, diabetes and metabolic liver diseases in acute myocardial infarction - Prof. Dr. med. Roden/ Prof. Dr. med. Kelm

Your qualifications:

We are seeking to recruit highly qualified, energetic and dynamic graduate students holding a M.Sc. degree. We need open-minded candidates with a strong biology background and experiences in general molecular biology. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory.

Terms of salary and employment:

The graduate students will be employed at the institution of the principal investigator or the University Hospital, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany. PhD positions (65% TV-L E13) are funded for three years by the German Research Foundation (www.dfg.de).
